2004 May Ordeal Minutes

  • The meeting was called to order by Lodge Chief Jeff Rasmussen
  • The meeting was opened by the obligation of our order
  • The minutes were read. Stephen made a motion to accept the minutes as read the motion was seconded and passed   
  • Treasurers report we have $2,606.89 in checking and $24,982.04 in savings

  Committee Reports

  • Activities- Jay McKinney reported that he is the new activities chairman and that they will have great activities coming up for the rest of the year.  
  • Ceremonies- David Watson reported that the ceremonies team competed and were once again successful in placing first in both the Pre-ordeal and Brotherhood ceremonies. For the first time in Dixie Fellowship history the Brotherhood plaque was retired after the ceremonies team won 3 consecutive times. Also, for the first time ever since 51 years the ceremonies team won the Pre-ordeal competition seven years in a row.
  • Cook Team- No report.
  • Dance Team- Robbie Miller reported that the Dance team placed first again in team dance at Dixie and they still need youth to help at NOAC.
  • Drum Team- Robbie Miller reported that they placed third in team sing at Dixie. They practice along with the Dance team. 
  • Service- Taber Hyde reported that there was a great show of ordeal members and brothers giving service.  They completed all work assignments that were needed and they are now ready for summer camp.  Service is still working on finishing the campfire ring.
  • Camp Promotions- Ed de Torres reported that the Camp Promotions book has been made and will be sent out in the mail.
  • Membership Development- Daniel Thompson reported that there were 71 new brothers that went through their ordeal and 12 brothers to obtain brotherhood.  He thanks all the Elangomats and Nimats for their help.
  • Training- Robbie Miller reported that elangomat training was successful on Friday night.  He will also offer this training at the next ordeal.  He will have 9 training cells at Fall Fellowship. 
  • Communications- Adam Lutterloh reported that the April Elogams are in the mail and will arrive very soon.  A summer Elogam will be made and printed in June or July.  Look at the website for any information you need on the past Elogams.
  • Unit Elections- Justin Perry reported that they had a great weekend and he hopes to see even more new brothers at the next ordeal.

Chapter Reports

  • Allowelendam- Daniel Thompson reported that they will meet on May 25th at Christ United Methodist Church at 6:30 where they will hold a softball game and have a hot dog cookout.  They have 9 new members that went through their ordeal this weekend.
  • Battleground- Gary Giffin reported that they will not have a meeting in June or July.   
  • Apatschin Tschitani- Taber Hyde reported that they have 23 people attending this weekend.  They had 5 new brothers go through their ordeal and 3 brothers to obtain brotherhood.  They meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month at First Baptist church in Rutherfordton. 
  • Gemstone- No report
  • Heartland- No report
  • Lowaneu Watchseu- No Report
  • Occonluftee- Stephen Shonewolf reported that they had 11 new brothers go through their ordeal and 1 obtained his brotherhood. They are working to improve the chapter brotherhood conversion rate.
  • Tsungani- No report.
  • Swamp fox- Jay McKinney reported that he is going to try and restart the Swamp fox chapter as the new chapter chief.  

 Old Business

·      Kenneth Pekarek reported on Dixie Fellowship and the awards that our lodge won.

 New Business 

  • Zack moved to accept the Vigil nominations that were selected by the committee. The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Adam Lutterloh moved to change the date for LLDC from November 13 to October 23. The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Robbie Miller moved to make a flap with the three lodges that are sharing a bus to NOAC. The flaps will be sold to all of the NOAC delegates and extras will be sold to the lodge starting at April Ordeal. The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Zack Queen moved that the remainder of the camp award CSPs be sold in the lodge store after camp. If there were less than 200 flaps leftover then the lodge would order at least that many to be sold. The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Adam Lutterloh moved to allot $200 dollars for the OA cracker barrel to be held at scout camp. The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Adam Lutterloh moved to allot $150 dollars to be used as money to hang the flags that were received at Dixie Fellowship to be hanged in the Dining Hall, assuming the council approves.  The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Adam Lutterloh reported on the Founders Day award which will be voted on at Fall Fellowship.

  • Zack Queen moved to make a new standard issue lodge flap.  The designs should be submitted at August Ordeal and Fall Fellowship.  The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Adam Lutterloh moved to change the date for the May Ordeals next year to May 6-8 and May 13-15. The motion was seconded and passed.

  • Ed de Torres reported on the lodge brotherhood participation award.

  • Jeff Rasmussen recognized the new lodge officers for the 2004-2005 lodge year.  The brothers elected were Adam Lutterloh as lodge chief, Justin Perry as VCA, Robbie Miller as VCP, Peter McAnulty as secretary, and Zack Queen as treasurer. 3

  • Ed de Torres reported that he was stepping down as lodge advisor and a committee has been formed to elect a new lodge advisor.

  • Jeff Rasmussen and Joe Slade reported on NOAC.

  • Zack Queen made a motion to adjourn the motion was seconded and passed.

  • The meeting was closed with the OA song.
