2003 May Ordeal Minutes

  • The meeting was called to order by Lodge Chief Thomas White.
  • The meeting was opened by the Obligation of our Order.
  • The minutes were read and approved as amended.
  • Treasurer’s report- $24, 253.81 in savings, $8,164.83 in checking.

  Committee Reports

  • Activities- Activities went well and all had fun
  • Ceremonies- For the first time ever in Dixie and Eswau history, Eswau Huppeday’s ceremonies team swept all possible places in the brotherhood and pre-ordeal ceremonies
  • Cook Team- the food was good
  • Dance Team- Join the Dance Team because we won Dixie, and Brian placed third and Raymond First in Old Style dancing.
  • Drum Team- We placed third at Dixie and did very well.
  • Service- Tony was very happy with the amount of work done considering the amount of people that showed up, and if Tony is happy, you should be happy.
  • Camp Promotions- +3 is cool.  Camp is coming up.  There are some slots still available on staff and some camper slots still available.
  • Membership Development- We had 32 ordeal candidates this weekend.  Thanks to all of the Elangomats and Nimats.  We had 6 brotherhood conversions.  If you want to be an Elangomat or Nimats contact Brendan Haney at 704 922 7233.  Thanks.
  • Training- The bazaar went well.  Next ordeal every committee MUST have a display.  If you need help contact Daniel Thompson
  • Communications- There will be an election special report at June Ordeal, if you are an officer and want to be in it talk or send an article to Kenneth Pekarek.
  • Unit Elections- We are continually accepting Unit Election reports.  Clearly PA is on the ball as we have had an ordeal.  Send forms to PA Rowe and Charles Lutterloh.

Chapter Reports

  • Allowelendam- We meet on the third Tuesday of each month, save June and July.  This month, that is May, we will have our traditional Hotdog and baseball meeting.  Thomas is jolly.
  • Battleground- no report.
  • Apatschin Tschitani- We meet on the third Thursday of every month in the Troop 132 Scouthut in Rutherfordton.  We have just held a call out ceremony at Camp Mcall.  We called out 13 new members.  8 attended and earned their ordeal membership this weekend.  We are still working and developing our own dance, drum, and ceremonies teams.
  • Gemstone- no report.
  • Heartland- no report.
  • Lowaneu Watchseu- A cookout will be held the first of June as Josh Lail retires from the position of Chapter Chief.
  • Occonoluftee- no report.
  • Tsungani- no report.

 Old Business

  • The Chapter Service Award requirements were put into the past Elogam and will be again.
  • Indian Summer slots are still open to those willing to pay
  • DIXIE DIXIE DIXIE
  • Once Again, Eswau had an awesome performance at Dixie. We were one of 4 section honor lodges. In Administrative events, we placed 2nd in planbook, 3rd in Lodge Display, and 3rd in Website. In Quest for the Golden Arrow, we placed 1st in Knot-Tying, 1st in Rifle, 1st in Tent Pitching, 2nd in Egg Toss, and 3rd in Cross Country.  In Indian Events Eswau won 1st in pre-ordeal and Brotherhood. This was our 6th strait pre-ordeal victory and our 2nd strait Brotherhood victory. In Brotherhood, Thomas White (Allowat), John Garwood (Meteu), Zack Queen (Nutiket), and Adam Lutterloh (Kichkinet) all placed first in thier parts. In Pre-Ordeal, Thomas White (Allowat), Brian Barrett (Meteu), Adam Lutterloh, (Nutiket), and Kenneth Pekarek (Kichkinet), all placed 1st in thier parts. TWO CLEAN SWEEPS.  We won 3rd place in team sing and once again, we won 1st place in Team Dance. In Individual Dancing, Raymond Leatherman came in 1st for Old Style and Brian Manuel came in 3rd. In Outfit Judging for Oldstyle, Raymond Leatherman won 1st, Thomas White won 2nd, and Brendon Haney won 3rd.  Finally, We placed 2nd in the Power Tools divison of the Totem Pole Carving. As you can see, Eswau won many events in every aspect of Dixie, proving once again that we are more than just an Indian Events Lodge. 
  • A Scout Shirt was lost this weekend, if you found it please turn it in to Joe Slade, or somebody official.

 New Business 

  • Nominations for Lodge Chief was opened by Thomas White.
    • Brandon Costner nominated Ben Cook and Raymond Leathermon implied that Ben would accept.
    • Adam Lutterloh nominated Jeff Rasmussen and Jeff accepted.
    • Raymond Leathermon nominated Adam Lutterloh and Adam declined.
  • Nominations for Vice Chief of Program was opened by Thomas White.
    • Jeff Rasmussen nominated Brian Manuel and Brian accepted.
    • Adam Lutterloh nominated Zack Queen and Zack accepted.
  • Nominations for Vice Chief of Administration was opened by Thomas White.
    • There were no nominations!
  • Nominations for Secretary was opened by Thomas White.
    • Zack Queen nominated Peter McAnuluty.
  • Nominations for Treasurer was opened by Thomas White.
    • There were no nominations!
  • Nominations were then closed until June Ordeal.
  • It was noted that all Vigil Nomination Letters should be sent to Vigil Chairman Adam Lutterloh, and Mr. Slade would also bring letters to the committee.
  • Camp inspections are this week, and therefore we need to clean the camp well
  • All new members should navigate themselves to www.eswau.org, there you can sign up for the email list so you can be sent email, check out the bulletin board, find information about our lodge, and locate the Jumpstart section of the national website.
  • It was pointed out to the new members, that not all events are like this, there is much more fun at fellowships, so fear not arrowman.
  • Their was a motion the adjourn.  The motion was passed.
  • The meeting was closed with the Song of our Order.
