2000 August Ordeal Minutes

  • The meeting was called to order by Lodge Secretary Adam Lutterloh.
  • The meeting was opened with the Obligation of our Order.
  • The minutes were read and approved as amended.
  • Treasurer's report: $5,197.09 in checking and $21,508.47 in savings.
Committee Reports
  • Activities - The Ordeals are over, and we are looking towards to a fun-filled FallFellowship. If you need to schedule something see Kenneth Pekerak.
  • Cook Team - We had a good turnout this weekend. We are looking for next year's team. Wewill happily accept any new members. We visited some kitchens at NOAC. One seated 400 andserved 1,200.
  • Ceremonies Team - Ceremonies completed two of this year's goals at NOAC: we competed andthe Pre-Ordeal team Honored. Brotherhood, however, didn't do as well, with a Merit performance.Team members that competed were David Blankenship, Thomas White, Dustin Drennan, and AdamLutterloh in Pre-Ordeal and Adam Lutterloh, Thomas White, Robert White, John Garwood inBrotherhood.
  • Dance Team - We won at NOAC. It is the fourth time in a row that we are National Dance TeamChampions. We will start again for next year at Fall Fellowship.
  • Service - Thanks for coming out and helping. We finished all the jobs.
  • Communications - Elogam is coming soon.
  • Camp Promotions - Summer camp attendance up 12%. In-Council attendance down over 100Scouts. Only two chapters increased attendance: Gemstone - 2%, Foothills - 38%.
  • Membership Development - No report.
  • Training - On Friday night, the Training committee presented a session for new Lodge memberson how to participate in and understand Lodge meetings. Currently, the committee is preparingfor LLDC. Invitations have been mailed to the Section and Region officers. After lunch, theLLDC Individual Assessment CD was opened for Lodge members to submit their requests for sessionsto be taught at LLDC. If anyone would like to teach a session at LLDC please see Matt Smith atFall Fellowship or contact him by e-mail.
  • Unit Elections - There were 157 people elected. 145 actually came. There were 17 summercamp electees. Special thanks to Zack Queen and to Matt Smith for organizing the electionsduring camp.
Chapter Reports
  • Allowelendam - We meet on the third Tuesday of the month. We are having a meeting thisTuesday. Congratulations to our new members.
  • Battleground - No report.
  • Gemstone - We are still doing nothing, but plan to do something soon.
  • Heartland - We had a Chapter meeting and now have an active Chapter Chief.
  • Lowaneu Wachtshu - We meet on the third Thursday of every month at the First United MethodistChurch in Lenoir. We are currently planning a fall cookout.
  • Occonoluftee - We meet on the first Thursday of every month at First United Methodist Churchin Conover. Joe Howard is our new Chapter Adviser.
  • Thermal - No Report.
  • Tsungani - This Ordeal: 4 Ordeal members, and 1 Brotherhood. Planning meeting held lastThursday. Hiking and rafting outing discussed. Made ice cream. Will continue to meet on thirdThursday with additional meetings held for singing and drum team. Next meeting held atGiovanni's in Drexel.
Old Business
  • The sound system is done. Sonny Smith has the key.
New Business
  • There was a motion made to move the June Ordeal from June 8-10 to June 1-3 due to summer campsituations. The motion was seconded and passed.
  • The Cub Scout committee wants to thank the Dance Team.
  • If you are interested in being a committee chairman, let Dustin Drennan know, and besure to fill out one of the applications.
  • If you have an e-mail address, give it to Gary Wilhelm if you are not already on the Lodgelistserv.
  • Carolinas' Indian Seminar will be on the third or fourth weekend in January. We need lotsof staff, 18+ can be on security staff.
  • NOAC Report:
    • Very successful. We had 36 youth and 16 adults to go.
    • The Ceremonies team did very well, Pre-Ordeal = Honors, Brotherhood = Merit.
    • Dance Team won the National Championship again, fourth time in a row.
    • The Lodge Website was a National Honors Site.
    • The next NOAC will be held in 2002 at Indiana University.
  • Next summer is the National Jamboree, they need staff, it costs $245 for staff. Let Ed deTorres know if you want to be on staff.
  • There was a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded and passed.
  • The meeting was closed with the song of our Order.
