2000 April Ordeal Minutes

  • The meeting was called to order by Lodge Chief Dustin Drennan
  • The meeting was opened with the Obligation of our Order.
  • The minutes were read from last meeting and approved as amended.
  • Treasurer's report: we have $4,410 in checking and $20,921.45 in savings.
Committee Reports
  • Activities - Eswau Theater went well. Please bring any spy type movies to the next Ordeal.
  • Camp Promotions - no report.
  • Ceremonies - we have one new member, Brian Barrett. We had good ceremonies this weekend. Also, both the Pre-Ordeal and Brotherhood teams came in first place at Dixie and we are getting ready for NOAC.
  • Communications - The next Elogam will be out within the next two weeks.
  • Cook Team - Please see Paul Sisk or Matt Smith if you are interested in joining.
  • Dance Team - we had a pizza party and we are getting ready for NOAC.
  • Membership Development - We had 16 new Brotherhood members and 25 new Ordeal members.
  • Service - Thanks to all new Ordeal members and Brothers for all your hard work this weekend. The work projects went well. A lot was done to get camp ready for National Camp School and Summer Camp. All the tents were moved to the campsites. The first row of rock in the OA fire ring was finished and the third row was started. We need to do the roadside trash pickup. We have a contract with the State of North Carolina to do four roadside pick-ups. We have not done any yet.
  • Training - Thanks to Kevin Shook for teaching the training session. Also, Adam Lutterloh will be teaching the training session at the May Ordeal.
  • Unit Elections - we're almost done with elections, if you have any questions, please ask Zack Queen.
Chapter Reports
  • Allowellendam - Our chapter meets on the third Tuesday of the month. We would like to congratulate our new members, and we would like to encourage all the come out to the May Ordeal for service and elections.
  • Battleground - no report.
  • Gemstone - we had our call-out ceremony at our spring camporee. It went very well.
  • Heartland - please come to our meetings.
  • Loweneu Watchsheu - we meet on the third Thursday of every month. Paul Sisk is our Chapter Chief. The Ceremonies team helped us at our camporee. We now have two new Ordeal members.
  • Occonoluftee - We meet on the first Thursday of every month at FUMC in Conover. Please come to our meetings.
  • Thermal - no report.
  • Tsungani - no report.
Old Business
  • A meeting was held Saturday afternoon of April Ordeal to discuss NOAC. The Lodge will take a bus to NOAC that has air conditioning. There are still three youth slots available for NOAC; deadline is May Ordeal.
  • The Lodge has purchased a TV and VCR to be used in the dining hall at Camp Bud Schiele. The existing cabinets in the kitchen will be modified so the TV and VCR can be stored on a cart, rolled into the kitchen, and locked into place.
  • The Lodge Website has been moved to http://www.eswau.org/.
New Business
  • A motion made to allot $2,000 for a new sound system in the Camp Bud Schiele dining hall to replace the old, inadequate one. The motion was seconded and passed.
  • Steve Brooks is going to make the locking cabinet for the TV and VCR.
  • A motion was made to approve the Taz design as the official NOAC flap for NOAC. The motion was seconded and passed.
  • A motion was made to make mini flaps using the same design as the NOAC flap. It was seconded and passed.
  • May Ordeal will be on the weekend of May 19-21. Lodge elections and Vigil elections will take place.
  • A motion was made to open the floor for nominations for 2000-2001 Lodge Officers. Nominations are as follows: Chief: Dustin Drennan, Kenny Frick. Vice Chief of Program: Paul Sisk. Vice Chief of Administration: Thomas White, Matthew Smith. Secretary: Adam Lutterloh. Treasurer: Zack Queen, Kenneth Pekarek. Nominations will remain open until the elections are held at May Ordeal.
  • A motion was made to restrict NOAC flaps to delegates and staff from our Lodge until August Ordeal, when any left may be sold in the Lodge store. The motion was seconded and passed.
  • Dixie Fellowship run-down: Dance Team - second place. Ceremonies Team - first place in Brotherhood and Pre-Ordeal Cermonies. Training - third place. Totem Pole (power tools category) - second place. Drum Team - third place. Quest for the Golden Arrow (Egg Toss) - first place.
  • There was a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded and passed.
  • The meeting was closed with the song of our Order.
