Joyce Kilmer Area

Near Robbinsville. Remote wilderness and a virgin timber attract many campers to this area. Camping is available in two sites.

Chunky Gal Mount Area

Near Franklin. The Bob Allison primitive campground provides camping and can be used as a base camp for hiking many nearby trails.

Appletree Group

Near Franklin. Group campground on the Nantahala River and the Bartram Tral. Nice facilities. Open April to August.

Standing India Area

West of Franklin. Several Camping Options in a remote area chock full of hiking opportunities. Adjacent to the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area and the Appalachian Trail. Camping is available in the Standing Indian campground, the Kinsey Creek Group Camp, or the Hurricane Creek Primitive Camping Area. The first two are closed in the winter.
