Facilities and Activites:
Since Philmont's first camping season in 1939, more than 820,000 Scouts, Venturers, and their leaders have participated in the rugged challenge of its backpacking program.
The ranch and surrounding area offer many places to go and things to do. The Kit Carson and Philmont museums and the Seton Memorial Library are well worth visiting before or after your trek. Nearby towns such as Cimarron and Springer are windows to the region's rich history.
Camping Headquarters
Base camp isn't quite so rugged, offering the luxuries of a dining hall, showers, platform tents, and a trading post. A medical center is available, as are chapels for different religious faiths.
Museums
Visitors to Philmont are encouraged to visit our museums, which tell the area's story through artifacts and art.
Nearby Towns
While Philmont does not offer accommodations for individuals who may be travelling with your crew, but not participating in your expedition, there are plenty of places to stay and things to do in the nearby towns.

Philmont is the single greatest trip I have ever been on in my life. A superb backpacking adventure. Well worth the money. Troop trips can be scheduled with Philmont Scout Ranch at the below information. The Council sends regular contingents that normally have several crews (12 people per crew).
