A historic monument that lies a short drive from Atlanta. Atop Stone Mountain's granite dome you can see for miles right to Downtown Atlanta. Group camping onsite and hiking trails provide a fun place to camp. The other diversions offer a break from the normal camping trip including a gondola ride to the top of the mountain, or a laser light show. Nearby Atlanta can be reached by the Marta station and Downtown Atlanta can offer exciting history opportunities including the World of Coca Cola.

This trip is more of a fun camping diversion than a trip in which your basic scouting skills are practiced. When I went as a scout in 1998 in the morning we went into Downtown Atlanta and had a fun time at the Underground, World of Coca Cola, and took a historic hike around the city. In the afternoon we hiked to the top of Stone Mountain and explored the various historical activities. A fun trip, but not one where the basic scouting skills are practiced.
