In 1998, Eswau Huppeday moved sections again, this time back to
SR5, and back to the Dixie Fellowship.
We hosted the Dixie in 1998 at Camp Bud Schiele, where the tradition
of Ultimate Frisbee was started.
Eswau Huppeday's ceremonies teams have shown major improvements
throughout the 1990s. They have been competing at Section and National
events since 1992. At the 1992 NOAC, the team finished 18th in the
nation in the Brotherhood Ceremony. After being unable to compete at
the 1994 NOAC, the team finished as a National Medalist Team in the
Pre-ordeal ceremony in 1996. Team members included Jacob Hollar as
Allowat Sakima, Michael Pittman as Meteu, T.C. Morphis as Nutiket, and
Gary Wilhelm as Kichkinet.
In addition, the team has done very well at Section Conclaves. The
team finished second in the Pre-Ordeal ceremony to Nawakwa Lodge in
both 1995 and 1996. Team members have also placed several times
individually in the Pre-Ordeal ceremony. Gary Wilhelm finished first
as Kichkinet in 1995 and 1996 as well as second in 1993. Jon Blosser
finished first as Nutiket in 1995, second in 1996, and third in 1993.
Jacob Hollar finished second as Allowat Sakima in 1995 and 1996.
Nathan Yoder finished second as Allowat Sakima in 1993 and third in
1994. Michael Pittman finished second as Meteu in 1996. The team has
been successful during the 1990s and expects to be successful on into
the next century.
Eswau's ceremony success continued into the new section too, with a
first place finish in the Pre-Ordeal ceremony. Eswau's Ceremonial team
did not stop there. They earned first place in 1999, 2000 and
2001 also. Not only did the team earn first, but every individual has
placed first or second. Daniel Ray finished first as Nutiket in 1998,
1999 and 2000. Parker Gray finished first as Meteu in 1998. Michael
Pittman finished first as Allowat Sakima in 1998. John Melonakos
finished second as Kichkinet in 1998. David Blankenship finished first
as Meteu in 2000 and second in 1999. Thomas White finished first as
Allowat Sakima in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Dustin Drennan finished first
as Kichkinet in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Adam Lutterloh finished first as
Nutiket in 2001 and Brian Barrett finished first as Meteu in 2001.
Eswau began competing in the Brotherhood ceremony in 2000, earning a
first place as a team. Thomas White as Allowat Sakima and Adam
Lutterloh as Kichkinet place first. Robert White as Nutiket finished
second and John Garwood as Meteu finished third. Adam Lutterloh as
Kichkinet placed second in 2001, after some unfortunate happening
occurred. Eswau's Ceremony Team hopes to continue its dominance of SR5
in the years to come.
Eswau Ceremonies has also done well at NOAC. In 2000, the
Pre-Ordeal was evaluated and was given an Honors rating. Team members
were Adam Lutterloh as Nutiket, David Blankenship as Meteu, Thomas
White as Allowat Sakima and Dustin Drennan as Kichkinet.
Dixie 2002: A Golden Legacy was the 50th anniversary of the Dixie
Fellowship. Eswau Huppeday showed up with its metaphorical game
face on. We won the Dance, Website, and both Pre-Ordeal and
Brotherhood Competitions. We also won various Quest
Competitions, had dancers place individual categories, and placed in
the Knowledge and Training Competition. Although the camp was
plastered with our Hawaiian posters, we did not win spirit; we did
however, become one of only three lodges in the section to be a honor
lodge for the year.
Simply put, Eswau rocked of the shaheezy at NOAC 2002, which took
place at the University of Indiana. The Call Out team (Thomas
White, Adam Lutterloh, Brian Barrett,
and Kenneth Pekarek) was awarded the Honor Medal, the first team to do
so in our lodge's history. Adam Bartley was in the top 10 in the
nation for old style dancing, and Brian Manuel placed in the top five
in the same category. For the fifth time in a row, Eswau won
Team Dance. The website received the National Honor Site Award
for the second time in a row. Eswau also received the Spirit
Award. Eswau, along with AKK were the only lodges in our section
to receive it, and only 19 other lodges in the nation won the award.
Not only did Eswau win/compete in just about everything, we obtained
950 patches to raise money for our lodge by doing our patch trading
game for the second year. Eswau truly outdanced, outperformed,
and outtraded.
Once Again, Eswau had an awesome performance at Dixie 2003. We were
one of 4 section honor lodges. In Administrative events, we placed 2nd
in planbook, 3rd in Lodge Display, and 3rd in Website. In Quest for
the Golden Arrow, we placed 1st in Knot-Tying, 1st in Rifle, 1st in
Tent Pitching, 2nd in Egg Toss, and 3rd in Cross Country. In
Indian Events Eswau won 1st in pre-ordeal and Brotherhood. This was
our 6th strait pre-ordeal victory and our 2nd strait Brotherhood
victory. In Brotherhood, Thomas White (Allowat), John Garwood (Meteu),
Zack Queen (Nutiket), and Adam Lutterloh (Kichkinet) all placed first
in thier parts. In Pre-Ordeal, Thomas White (Allowat), Brian Barrett
(Meteu), Adam Lutterloh, (Nutiket), and Kenneth Pekarek (Kichkinet),
all placed 1st in thier parts. TWO CLEAN SWEEPS. We won 3rd
place in team sing and once again, we won 1st place in Team Dance. In
Individual Dancing, Raymond Leatherman came in 1st for Old Style and
Brian Manuel came in 3rd. In Outfit Judging for Oldstyle, Raymond
Leatherman won 1st, Thomas White won 2nd, and Brendon Haney won 3rd.
Finally, We placed 2nd in the Power Tools divison of the Totem Pole
Carving. As you can see, Eswau won many events in every aspect of
Dixie, proving once again that we are more than just an Indian Events
Lodge.
In 2004 our Lodge again
succeeded at NOAC at the University of Iowa. Here is a listing of
competitions we either won or did well in:
American Indian Events:
Raymond Leatherman and
Brian Manuel both danced individual old style and placed second and
fifth (respectively). The drum team placed seventh and the dance
team once again won the National Championship. The Ceremonies team
also did well. Robbie Miller, Jay McKinney, Adam Lutterloh, and Jeff
Rasmussen competed and received Honor Medals for the Pre-Ordeal
Ceremony. Adam Lutterloh and Jeff Rasmussen also competed in the
Vigil Ceremony and received medals for performing quality
ceremonies.
Other Events:
Eswau Huppeday sent out
a Volleyball team into the tournament and tied for fifth place
overall. The Brotherhood participation award was an individual award
that every member of our contingent earned at this NOAC. Our website
received Honor Site status and is one of only two Lodges to have
received this honor since the competition was started in 2000.
We also took home the most prestigious award offered at NOAC, the
Lodge Spirit Award. Only twenty lodges in the nation took home this
award and we were one of them. Just a news update. Every member of
the lodge contingent should be congratulated as it was a team effort
that enabled us to succeed at this NOAC.
